The value of homes in the capital is falling after years of annual growth. House prices in London fell by 0.6% in June, according to the UK’s official statistics body, the ONS. It might not sound like much but follows years in which prices grew by an annual average 7.5% between the end of 2009 and the end of 2017. As of December 2019 the average house price in the UK is £234,742, and the index stands at 123.12. Property prices have risen by 0.3% compared to the previous month, and risen by 2.2% compared to the previous year. Since the Halifax began tracking historical UK house prices in 1983: House prices have risen nationally by 428%. London house prices are up by 559%.
